This book mainly shows readers how to calibrate and control robots. In this regard, it proposes three control schemes: an error-summation enhanced Newton algorithm for model predictive control; recurrent neural network (RNN) for solving perturbed time-varying underdetermined linear systems; and a new joint-drift-free scheme aided with projected ZNN, which can effectively improve robot control accuracy. Moreover, the book develops four advanced algorithms for robot calibration – Levenberg-Marquarelt with diversified regularizations; improved covariance matrix adaptive evolution strategy; quadratic interpolated beetle antennae search algorithm; and a novel variable step-size Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm – which can effectively enhance robot positioning accuracy. We develop some control and calibration schemes for enhancing the tracking and positioning accuracy of the robot. The first model is a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme for robot trajectory tracking, which can optimize tracking error, velocity norm, and acceleration norm. The second model is a new recurrent neural network (RNN), which has better performance in dealing with time-varying underdetermined linear systems with double limits. The third model is a novel Joint Drift Free (JDF) scheme synthesized by the Projection Zeroing Neural Network (PZNN) model, which can effectively solve the motion generation and control of redundant manipulators under disturbance.

Delay insensitive circuits rely on local coordination and control from the ground up, enabling data and signal processing applications without any clock distribution network whatsoever. This ability can bring a welcome relief to projects whose timing infrastructure would otherwise tend to create more problems than it solves. The quest for performant, robust electronics for data and signal processing applications has often depended on the help of a small close-knit faction of specialists in asynchronous circuit design working on the margins of the broader engineering community. On those rare but dreaded occasions when its technical debt comes due, the deeply held assumption of discrete global time in synchronous design (as opposed to asynchronous design) harshly reaffirms the need for their esoteric skills. Sometimes incremental progress is achievable by a combination of synchronous and asynchronous circuitry carefully organized as far as possible to insulate the majority of engineers from unwelcome contingencies. Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) would seem ideally situated to attract similar interest, but have achieved only limited success in that regard at best. Although undoubtedly due in part to the marketing focus on commercial developers by the major FPGA vendors, this unfortunate circumstance might be more aptly explained by the hard truth that FPGA programming is a little too much like work to fit most people’s idea of a recreational activity.

The electronics industry has grown at a breakneck pace during the past few decades, primarily owing to significant advancements in integration technologies and large-scale systems design - in other words, the introduction of VLSI. Chip density and operation speed increase, resulting in increasingly complex devices with high frequency. The power dissipation of the device, and hence the temperature, increases linearly as the clock frequency of the chip increases. Furthermore, smaller integrated circuits (ICs) with better functions and faster reactions boost the system’s compactness.
