Битва за Ленинград — самое продолжительное сражение Второй мировой войны, длившееся с 10 июля 1941 года по 9 августа 1944 года. Через призму биографий как прославленных полководцев, так и неизвестных героев автор вырисовывает масштабную картину обороны Ленинграда. Акцент в книге сделан на действиях войск Ленинградского фронта, сражавшихся изнутри блокадного кольца.
Голод — самое страшное и безжалостное испытание, которое может выпасть на долю человека. Голод стирает тысячелетия цивилизации, низводя людей до первобытного состояния. И только любовь, вера и понимание общей беды позволяют сохранить человеческое достоинство. Генералы и офицеры, солдаты и мирные жители — все оказались связаны голодом и единой судьбой. На страницах этой книги сам Город из места действия превращается в главного героя, на метафизическом уровне приближая Победу.
Основываясь на архивных выписках, журналах боевых действий полков и дивизий, автор показывает, в каких условиях полководцам приходилось планировать операции, а солдатам - атаковать хорошо укрепленные немецкие позиции. Отдельные материалы, связанные с биографиями В. Е. Ломакина и М. А. Нефедова, публикуются впервые.
