This volume is authored by a mix of global contributors from across the landscape of academia, research institutions, police organizations, and experts in security policy and private industry to address some of the most contemporary challenges within the global security domain. The latter includes protection of critical infrastructures (CI), counter-terrorism, application of dark web, and analysis of a large volume of Artificial Intelligence data, cybercrime, serious and organised crime, border surveillance, and management of disasters and crises.
This title explores various application scenarios of advanced ICT in the context of cybercrime, border security and crisis management, serious and organised crime, and protection of critical infrastructures. Readers will benefit from lessons learned from more than 30 large R&D projects within a security context. The book addresses not only theoretical narratives pertinent to the subject but also identifies current challenges and emerging security threats, provides analysis of operational capability gaps, and includes real-world applied solutions.
Nowadays, cybersecurity is considered as the key factor that an organization can be affected by a security incident. As there is a huge growth of cyber-attacks , successfully thwarting cybersecurity threats has become crucial up to the level of protecting people’s everyday lives and the effect they may have on a large number of businesses every year. For this reason, cybersecurity training can play a vital role in avoiding and defending against cyber-attacks and for securing systems, networks, and data, since they will teach all businesses’ stuff involved how to protect against cybersecurity threats.
In the last decades, the Internet of things (IoT) has been reshaping the surrounding environment of our daily lives as well as the business models of small- and medium-size enterprises (SME) and large industries. The complex interconnection of large networked systems inevitably led to a considerable increase in the number of vulnerabilities related to IoT systems that are easily exploitable. The Cyber-Trust project aims at developing a platform that will reduce the potential cyber-threats towards IoT systems, secure evidentiary material for cyber-security incidents occurring in smart home networks, and facilitate the exchange of information (that might contain forensic evidence) on cyber-attacks between law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and Internet service providers (ISPs); the reduction of the time needed to electronically share such information in a secure way is a notable advantage. To achieve this goal, Cyber-Trust is implementing a distributed ledger technology (DLT) – more specifically Blockchain – to store information relating to cyber-security incidents.
